Family Home Bedrooms Update

When we first viewed this home all the walls were painted in magnolia and were in need of updating and refreshing to suit our clients taste.

We started in the master bedroom where our clients wanted to create a calming retreat with neutral colours and texture. We painted the walls an off-white and added some built in wardrobes across one wall also in a neutral off-white to add some much needed storage to the space. Our clients really wanted a four poster bed so we chose a black framed modern interpretation of this to be the focal point of the room. We then added warm wooden bedside tables with matching drawers on the opposite side of the room and finished it off with adding some character and texture with the bedside lamps and cushions for the bed.

We then moved onto the toddlers bedroom. Our clients wanted a fun, playful space for their little girl but neutral in colour. We started the design off with a cream and soft brown animal mural for the main wall to set the tone. We then paired this with an off-white for the rest of the walls to keep the space nice and airy. Our clients found a cabin bed they wanted to use with storage below so we placed this on the back wall and created a reading nook to the right of it to make this area feel cosy and encourage play. On the opposite side of the room we added a bookshelf at a lower height for easy accessibility for their little girl with drawers for storage next to it. We finished off the room with pink pompom curtains and a pink fluffy light fixture to add texture and a soft colour to the space.

The two boys in the family asked for a dark and moody room that would be good for gaming in and have references to their favourite rollercoaster The Smiler. We drenched the walls and ceiling in a dark blue to encase the room and added a striped wallpaper to reference the barcode theme The Smiler has. We mounted the TV on the wall rather than being on a TV stand and instead used a floating shelving unit to house their gaming consoles. This provided the boys with more floor space and keeps all of their consoles safe and out of the way. Next to the TV area we added a desk for computer gaming and for homework which works well for both boys. The bunkbeds provide more floor space for playing but we chose beds that can be turned into two single beds as the boys grow.

The final bedroom in the home has been decorated ready for the newest sister of the family. We chose a green and cream striped wallpaper for the lower section of wall and added a wooden scalloped trim at the top to finish off the detail. The room was kept neutral to tie into the rest of the home but we added a wavey green lampshade to mirror the scalloped wallpaper and a bookshelf on the wall to match her sisters bedroom.

We also changed all of the carpet throughout the first floor from a low pile cream carpet to a more plush grey/brown carpet to warm everything up. On the stairs and landing we added a striking black stiped carpet to add interest to the otherwise neutral space and will be added some form on panelling on the wall up the stairs and replacing the traditional stair rails and banister.

We really enjoyed working on this home and creating bedrooms that suit the individual needs of everyone who shares it. Our clients are really pleased with the outcome of each room and love the individuality of them all, while also working together in the home.
